TEX106
An early, flax linen splash guard. These were put on the wall behind a wash stand to prevent the wall from being damaged by splashing water. This piece is hand worked in turkey red embroidery. The embroidery is well executed. It measures 16 & ½” by 30”. This is an early textile, hence the coarse, flax linen; it is ecru in color. The design is 3 whimsical owls sitting on a branch, asking, “Where have you been OWL night?” Very Victorian! Condition is excellent for an antique textile 100+ years. There are 3 holes on the top and two on the bottom corners, where it was tacked up. These are hardly noticeable. Two very light stains on the corners, again, insignificant. Please see the photo for how the edges were turned to the back and basted. Roughly done, but like that for 100+ years, so I left it original.
