Offering a rare set of vintage, Days of the Week towels.  Rare because they are hand embroidered in a design that we don’t see that often- the Chinese man doing the chores of the week.  You can still find these, but commonly with an animal motif, sunbonnet sue or woman depicted doing the week’s work.

This is an entire set of 7 for each day of the week.  The towel is linen, green and ecru checked.  Each measures approximately 15 & 1/2″ (selvage to selvage) by 36″ long.  The embroidery is hand worked and there is a variety of stitches and colors…well executed.  Each towel shows the work of the day, such as sewing, laundry, ironing, etc.  Condition is excellent, unused.  There is a slight age browning in places on a couple of edges, totally insignificant.  Only mentioned for complete accuracy of condition.  I just love these!

Antique Homespun Linen Towels, 5 Pieces

Five, antique, homespun towels…linen.  They are different kinds of linen with different thread counts.  I’ve tried to show the texture in the close up photo.  Different shades of off white, too.  Sizes- 17″ by 42″, pulled thread on all sides, 2 selvage edges…17″ by 19″, 1 selvage edge, 1 hand finished hem…24 & 1/2″ by 40″, 2 selvage edges, 1 hand finished end…18 & 1/2″ by 36″, 1 selvage edge…18 & 1/2″ by 53 & 1/2″, 1 selvage edge.

Condition is as found…some age discoloration and a some stains.

Antique Linen Towel, Monogram and Filet Lace

An antique, huck linen towel with filet lace trim.  This white towel measures 20″ by 36″, including the 1 & 1/4″ lace.  Both ends are hem stitched.  There is a hand worked monogram that measures 3 & 3/4″ by 4″.  It is padded satin stitch with the letters BHC.  Condition is excellent!

Antique Linen Towel, Red and Ecru Windowpane Check

This is antique, linen toweling.  It appears to have a bit of flax linen and possibly some sizing left.  It is sewn together into one piece and measures 14 &1/2″ wide and is 75″ long.  I’ve shown the seam where it is sewn together.  It is an ecru and red windowpane check.  Condition is unused and excellent.  There is the slightest age darkening on the outer edge.  A nice piece of early linen toweling.

Antique Linen Damask Towel with Fringe, Tag Attached, Czechoslovakia

A beautiful, antique towel with fringe.  It measures 58″ long, including the 7″, hand tied fringe.  It is 22″ wide.  Linen damask with ends that are woven green.  The design is roses and wreaths with a hint of Arts & Crafts and is the same on both ends.    There is a tag attached, Czechoslovakia.  Condition is excellent, unused, tag attached.

Vintage Linen Towel Yardage, Blue, Uncut

Vintage European towel yardage, tag attached.  This uncut toweling measures 22 & 1/2″ wide, selvage to selvage and is 9 & 1/2 feet long.  There are four sections of towel in this yardage; each measures 29″ long.  Off white linen damask in a diamond design, with blue woven strips.  Condition is excellent, unused, tag attached.  A light, storage spot or two and an area of slight surface darkening from years of exposure to the elements.  These would launder out.

Antique Linen Hand Monogrammed Towel

C. 1900, antique, white linen, huck towel, measuring a large 23″ by 36″…lovely, hand worked satin stitch monogram in Old English lettering…hand finished scalloped edges on both ends.  Condition is excellent.

Early Vintage Linen Damask Towel with Drawn Work

A nice example of a fine, vintage, linen towel.  Lovely hand drawn work on both ends in a lovers knot design.  The overall design has a Victorian look…is it a flower or an insect?  It measures 23″ by 42″.  Condition is excellent.

Antique Woven Linen Damask Towel

Early linen towel, similar to a “show towel”…C 1890.  It measures 20″  by 38″   .  Grecian Urn damask design in the center and blue and red woven design on each end.  Excellent condition with some overall fade to the red and blue.
